Kainai Forage Reports 30% increase in year over year Harvest
Stand Off, AB (October 31, 2024) – Kainai Forage is proud to announce the completion of its largest Timothy Hay harvest to date, having stored nearly 84,000 metric tonnes in the 2024 harvest season. This outstanding accomplishment marks a 30% increase in stored volumes over last year’s harvest and over four times growth since the partnership began in 2019. It was the vision of Chief and Council of the Kainai / Blood Tribe in 2019 to drive the business to growth and profitability by partnering to access needed growth capital and a new business model. Results to date show the success of that vision and strategy.
The massive effort to harvest over 20,000 acres, twice in one season, saw nearly 3,000 trucks loaded with hay in the fields, weighed, quality checked, and offloaded into Kainai Forage’s premium storage facilities. This accomplishment would not have been possible without the approximately 120 Kainai / Blood Tribe members employed by Kainai Forage, BTAP/AOHKII or the farming partners, most in permanent positions. When the aggressive growth ramp was undertaken in 2019 to expand the business, many thought it simply could not be done.
The notable increase in yield stands as a testament to the unwavering dedication of the Kainai / Blood Tribe community in embracing a bold new vision, the tireless efforts of the Kainai Forage and BTAP/AOHKII teams, the vital support from Indigena Capital in providing both capital and business expertise, and the steadfast teamwork of farming partners. Together, these contributions have solidified Kainai Forage's position as a leader in the forage industry, setting a strong foundation for continued growth and success.
As Kainai Forage grows and expands, it brings the Kainai / Blood Tribe closer to realizing their vision of using their agricultural heritage to strengthen their economic sovereignty.
